Our daughter, Lauren, attended OSL for 5 years and she is now a student at Luther Prep School in WI. To have your child grow up in God's word on a daily basis is such a treasure. We want to shelter our children from the often negative influence of the world and this was the way for us. People often ask if we are worried that she won't know how to handle the "real" world but I have learned over these last 2 years with Lauren away from home that she is more equipped to handle any issue that comes her way relative to her age than she would have been learning from a secular perspective. We are blessed to see that happen with our 2nd child as well. There are sacrifices both in finances and time but it is well worth it and I would do it all again.
Lauren’s current GPA is 3.35 and she is a consistent A/B honor roll student. Lauren is also on the yearbook staff and plays double tennis and piano. She plans to attend Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN to become a Early Childhood Teacher.

OSL is an outstanding school! Our son has thrived in the small school setting. I can't say enough about the teachers or the warm, caring environment. It is truly a blessing to drop my son off at school every day and know that he is being taught by teachers who share our values. We are thrilled at the social, academic and spiritual growth he has shown over the past couple of years!

As a military family, we are so grateful to God to be in San Antonio so that we can send our children to OSL. The multi-grade setting provides the children with a great deal of individual attention as well as a unique way for children to learn and work with other children of all ages.
We have seen remarkable improvements not only in the quality of education from their previous school, but also in our children’s behavior and attitudes. The thing we value most is that the amazing teachers at OSL uses God’s word as the foundation for all subjects. It is such a blessing to send our children to a school where they are prepared so well for their life on this earth, but especially for an eternity in Heaven.

My son is in Kindergarten this year and comes home every day bursting with all of the things he learned each day. What I love most about listening to him talk about his day is hearing him recount the Bible lesson that he has learned and reciting his memory work to me that they worked on in class. I am very thankful that he is able to have such a solid Christian education.

Our daughter is receiving a solid Christian education through OSL. Now, more than ever, it is important for a child to grow up with an inner GPS to guide them through the rest of their life. Academically, we can see the difference between her and the neighborhood children her age she plays with that attend Public School She is challenged by reading, memorizing, spelling, mathematics, all at age 6. We have also seen the positive changes in other children that have come here from Public school, and this reinforces for us, our choice to send her to OSL.

All three of my children were blessed to attend a Christian day school. Jennifer, now 27 and married, attended King of Kings in Maitland, Florida through the 7th grade and was very prepared for high school at O’Connor, when we moved to Texas. She graduated in the top 10% of her class, made the Jr. Varsity baseball team, went on to college at UTSA, graduated with a degree in Business Administration and now works in the auto claims department at USAA. More importantly, she continues to be active in our church serving as president of our women’s group, and organizing the Sunday School program and children’s outreach programs like Christmas for Kids. Alyssa, 25 transferred from the school in FL to OSL and attended OSL for grades 5-8. She went on to Luther Prepatory School in Watertown, WI which trains students for the ministry and teaching professions, and was on the basketball team. She loved the school but missed home and she returned to TX to finish out her last year and a half at O’Connor, graduating in the top 10% of her class. She went on to Texas Tech, graduating Suma Cum Laude with a degree in Early Childhood and is certified to teach grades K-6. Unable to find a job in her field, she has worked as an Office Manager for a wholesale jewelry company the last 2 years and attended Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran in Lubbock. Ross, turns 18 before the end of the year and attended OSL from K-8. He loves school and loved the fact he got to play all the sports he wanted. He is a Senior at Stevens High School and was just ranked number 7 in his class of 450. For the last two years he has made the Varsity Bowling Team and is a member of the Technology Club. He works part-time at Sea World and at church serves as an usher and helps out with special events. After graduation he plans on attending a TX College to major in Engineering with an emphasis in electronics and/or aviation.
At OSL they got the foundation not only for Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic but for life! They heard God’s word and saw God’s hand every day in every subject from the order and logic in Math to the events in History. A small school afforded them the chance to be a part of sports and theatre they might otherwise may not have had. They had the ability to help other children in their class, and when they needed more challenging assignments, they were given individual assignments over and above the regular. It’s just a Christian atmosphere and such a better atmosphere. I remember visiting one of my son’s first days of high school. I walked in and there were counselors and teachers walking around actually yelling at the students to get to class, the kids were disrespectful and no one was happy. I walked out to my car and just cried that I had to leave him there. But, he was grounded in what’s right and what’s wrong, he is respectful of authority and he does his best in school because it glorifies God. In addition, and I think sometimes more important than grades, our kids are recognized for their positive attitude and their effort. OSL prepared all of my kids to be Christian leaders in their family, church and community.

Charis Goelzer had the blessing of attending OSL from 1st - 8th grade. When she graduated she had the gift of learning all of her academics and sports from teachers who 1st and foremost loved their Savior and they DAILY shared that love with our daughter. She learned compassion and gentleness and love for others that stems from a multi-grade Christian school where kids learn to grow and interact with children of all ages. Charis is now a Senior at Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI. She was able to skip two years of high school math because her teacher in grade school saw her gifts and allowed her to excel in that subject. She now has a 4.0, she has played Varsity tennis and basketball, is in the school musicals and the traveling choir. Charis is obviously gifted - but we know that all the accolades will be of no worth in heaven - I thank God that OSL taught her that "People are God's greatest treasures.". She learned the love of her Savior, and God willing she will share that with others as she becomes an Early Childhood teacher.
Nathanael Goelzer had the blessing of attending OSL from pre-school thru 6th grade when we moved to WI. I loved watching Nathanael grow from the little one that others took care of to the caregiver himself. Nathanael is also attending Luther Prep School where after his 1st quarter, he is excelling both academically, having a 3.7 grade average, and in sports. Nathanael was actually the only child in his grade several years in grade school. I found that he not only got the individual attention he needed, but he was encouraged to go higher and learn form the older children in his classroom. The kindness and compassion he learned in grade school has carried forward into high school where he still is displaying the love of Christ to his peers. Nathanael plans on becoming a Lutheran pastor. We cannot thank God enough for the Christian foundation our children received at OSL. It made our jobs easier as Christian parents charged with the responsibility to bring our children up in the grace and knowledge of our Savior.

Tanya, Travis and Terri all went to Our Savior Ev. Lutheran School. Tanya went to Sunshine Cottage School for the Deaf for Kindergarten and then to OSL from 1st through 6th grade (there was no 7th and 8th grade at OSL at that time). She graduated from Nebraska Lutheran High School and Martin Luther College. She taught for four years at a Christian Day School. She is now a student at San Antonio College in the Graphic Design program.
Travis was a student at OSL from Kindergarten through 6th grade, graduated from Nebraska Lutheran High School and the University of Incarnate Word with a business degree and has worked for McKesson Pharmaceutical since graduation. His wife, Amy, also attended OSL for 2 years, while her dad was stationed at Ft. Sam. She is a graduate of Luther Prepatory School and the University of North Texas.
Terri was a student at OSL from preschool through 8th grade. She then graduated from Marshall High School and Texas Tech University. She is teaching high school math and is an assistant coach in Kingsville, TX.
Christian education is worth it because the teachers at OSL care about their students. Tanya and Terri are both hearing impaired; Tanya’s teachers were willing to wear a microphone to help her hearing aids work better. Travis and Terri did math work that was beyond their grade levels.
Yes, Christian education is worth it! The greatest lessons our children learned at OSL were from God’s Word. They learned about Jesus, who is our Lord and Savior, who forgives our sins and gives us the hope of eternal life in heaven.
Christian Education was definitely worth it to the David family. Tanya, Travis, Amy and Terri continue to be active in church activities such as craft night, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, church secretary, basketball camp.

All three of our children attended Our Savior Lutheran from Preschool through 8th grade. We were very blessed in this regard. All three attended or are attending a public high school. They did very well academically. All of them were place in pre-AP and/or AP classes. The curriculum at OSL more than adequately prepares the children for high school and the multigrade classes teach them to be more independent. The children also learn to help one another. The older children look after the younger ones, and as a result there is a lot of love shown to one another. The love of our Savior is very evident when you take the time to observe the children during school. Our boys both played basketball in high school. Our daughter, who is a sophomore this year, is currently in band. Our oldest son has attended 2 years of college, and the middle son is in his first year at Palo Alto and looking forward to a degree in mechanical engineering at this time. Both have remarked that college isn't as difficult as people like to tell them. Our daughter has been very blessed in high school. She has no difficulty in communicating with other students both her age and older and also seems to have a good rapport with her teachers. I'm sure much of that is due to their experiences at OSL.

What a blessing it was to have had our boys attend OSL where they not only got a great academic education, but more importantly they learned on a daily basis about God's love, grace and salvation found thru Jesus Christ. Academically they were well prepared to transition into public high school where they have been able to take many advanced and dual college courses. Their Christian education and faith has also helped them deal with all the adversity found in public school. As parents, what a blessing to have had a great pastor and great teachers partnering with us in the development of our boys.
Alexander attended OSL from 2nd grade thru 8th grade and is currently a senior at Marshall H.S. He plans to attend college and major in either Accounting or Business Administration. He is considering attending either Texas Lutheran University or University of Texas at San Antonio.
Nicholas attended OSL from Pre-K thru 8th grade and is currently a sophomore at Marshall H.S. He plans to attend college and major in either Music or Computer Science. He occasionally is able to use his musical talents in church services by playing guitar.

We are blessed to have had a place like Our Savior to continue the Christian education we began for our daughter in Wisconsin. Although OSL is smaller than most it is a perfect a balance between home school and a regular school. It allows for the direct attention and diversified learning from each other which is found in home school, yet spurs socialization of a regular school. Since we share in the same doctrinal truths of the staff we knew she would be taught, mentored, and disciplined as we would desire. The daily doctrinal truths instill a life long "lifeline" in dealing with the many challenges we face in life. Our daughter is currently a junior in a public high school. While we were a bit concerned about the public school system we were confident Ashley had a firm foundation to succeed in school first and foremost through the challenges of teenage life and academically. She currently has a 4.0 GPA and has been accepted into both the National and Spanish Honor Societies. She has received "O"Awards each year for her high academic standing. Her goals are to work in the sports medicine field. When asked what having a Christian education meant to her she said "the staff was always there to encourage us to do our best and the leave the results to God. Our studies in the bible prepared me to handle tempting situations and depend on God on all things. I certainly have a core of Christian morals and values which many of my peers, who did have this opportunity do not always display. I had 71/2 years of Christian education before moving in to the public school system."
As a father of four children, we have been blessed with the opportunity to have placed our children at a young age into a Christian School in order to give them a strong relationship with God. We knew that the school always represented “like minded” values and principals based on biblical scriptures. Christian education is so important, we believe that establishing a good “foundation in the faith” when they are young is the key to raising our children to become socially responsible. The Christian educational benefit is immeasurable. We are so happy that our children went to OSL.

With a family of 5 children we home-schooled the first 3 all the way through from K-12. We did this primarily for Christian family and church values, coupled with a general lack of entheusiasiam for much that we saw happening in the public schools.
After home schooling the oldest 3 all the way through, and the 4th child from 1st to 8th grades, we arrived at a time and situation where we thought it would be best if we could get the youngest (5th child) into school. This was primarily because the older ones had been able to go through home school in more of an "intimate group" environment with the 4 of them pretty much together. The flip side of that was that the younger was going to end up going through largley by herself. She's a very social person, and we didn't feel quite right about that. And yet, the normal social set up for schooling would never have been acceptable to us. We're strongly opposed to the model of schooling where the children are divided up according to single year age increments.
We felt (and believe we are!) incredibly blessed to have happened into a school where the classes are divided into 4 year groups of grades 1-4 and 5-8. In our view, that's the next best thing to a one room schoolhouse (K-12), which would itself be second best thing to home schooling.
In the beginning, that 4 year class spread represented the biggest compromise we would make away from the home school model of education. For this particular child and our overall situation, it really is working out to be a "best," and not a "compromise" at all. -- Though admittedly, when we first started with the idea of "institutional schooling" at all -- we did more or less view it as a "compromise from home school." -- But we're feeling and thinking less and less compromised every week. It's just working out to be tremendous blessings all the way around for us. Lovin' it!
